Flat Copper Gaskets are used as a seal between two surfaces to prevent leaks of gasses or fluids. They are frequently used externally in the assembly. An example of their use is to seal the surface between a machined or upset shell and a mating machined surface. Because copper is soft, it flows readily into the small irregularities of the two surfaces.
